COURSE DESCRIPTION
MGMT 801: Foundations for Ph.D. Study:-
In this required course, learners are introduced to the expectations of doctoral-level study at the IARSAC International University’s School of Management. Learners will be introduced to academic protocols, critical thinking, and inquiry-based analysis and other important doctoral program foundational skills, including time management, using the IIU library, academic integrity, and other important doctoral program foundational skills.
SCM 800: Survey Research Methods: Basics:-
The seminar intends to provide doctoral students with the basic knowledge to conduct survey research. It covers underlying measurement concepts as well as practical issues like: where to find measurement scales, how to get respondents, how to put the survey online etc. In addition, data analysis will be addressed briefly, because the type of intended analysis determines the design of the survey. [In depth analysis of latent variables (from surveys and other data collection methods) is provided in the doctoral course “Latent variable modeling”.
SCM 810: Purchasing and Supply Management:-
Advanced mechanics, procedures and tools used in purchasing. Recruiting, selecting, developing and managing supply chain partners in order to achieve competitive advantage via superior supply chain management. Factors and information needs for making supply management decisions.
SCM 811: Strategic Demand Planning:-
Synchronizes demand with manufacturing and distribution. Emphasis on the strategic advantages of linking business plans and demand forecasts, both vertically within the organization and collaboratively among supply chain partners
SCM 812: Demand Planning and Management:-
Demand planning process which synchronizes demand with manufacturing and distribution. Addresses linking business plans and demand forecast both horizontally and vertically within the organization and collaboratively among supply chain partners. Forecasting, customer relationship management, sales and operations planning, customer service, distribution channels, e-fulfillment, and information systems requirements
SCM 824: Advanced Statistical Methods for Management Decisions:-
The application of statistical methods to managerial problems, forecasting and business research. Topics include the blending of multiple regression and analysis of variance into a general linear model, logistic models, techniques for projecting seasonal time series, and forecasting techniques (ARIMA models) which deal with serially correlated data. Through class presentations, assigned exercises and a major project, students gain experience in constructing explanatory and predictive models for problems in marketing, finance, etc. Students use commercial software (e.g., the Statistical Analysis System) for analyzing data, constructing, models and producing reports.
SCM 826: Transportation Management and Policy:-
Analysis of contemporary issues and strategies in transportation management and policy. Emphasis on evaluation of the impacts of transportation policies, new technologies, and strategic carrier and shipper management practices on the freight transportation industry and logistics systems.
SCM 827: International Logistics and Global Supply Chain Management:-
Theory and practice of logistics activities in international business with special emphasis on transportation, global sourcing, customs issues, import-export opportunities, customs documentation, the role of government in international transactions, customer service, and global supply chain management. Special emphasis is placed on current events and their effect on the marketing and logistics activities of organizations.
SCM 835: Advanced Operations Research Topics:-
Advanced topics from such areas as mathematical programming, stochastic processes, decision theory, or game theory are studied in depth.
SCM 850: Research Practicum I:-
Preparation of a research manuscript to be submitted to a peer-reviewed academic journal. Students will work with a faculty mentor on a research project.
SCM 845: Special Topics in Logistics Supply Chain Management:-
In-depth analysis of special topics in Logistics and Supply Chain Management research. May be repeated for credit when the subject matter is different.
SCM 851: Research Practicum II:-
Preparation of a second research manuscript to be submitted to a peer-reviewed academic journal. Although students work under the supervision of a faculty mentor, the students will take independent responsibility for the research project.
SCM 864: Seminar in Purchasing:-
Review of classic purchasing theories. Discussion of contemporary supply management strategy; the role of supply management and its relationship with other functional areas; its impact on logistics and transportation issues; management of supply uncertainties.
SCM 865: Seminar in Logistics Management:-
Integration of network, economic, and systems theory in the design, management, and control of logistics systems in the context of integrated supply chain management. Functional areas addressed include transportation, inventory order fulfillment, distribution, and warehousing. Facility location analysis will also be covered.
SCM 866: Seminar in Operations Management:-
Review of the research literature on methods of organizing, planning, controlling, and improving manufacturing systems to achieve the desired performance objectives related to cost, quality, speed, and flexibility. The relationship between the performance of the manufacturing system and the performance of the supply chain system will also be discussed.
SCM 867: Seminar in Logistics and Operations Management:-
Topics of current interest in logistics and operations management. Topics may include just-in-time and lean production, quality management, manufacturing and service systems, transportation and logistics, quantitative management tools, etc.
SCM 868: Supply Chain Management Seminar:-
This course emphasizes the adoption of a supply chain orientation toward business and the need for more effective inter-firm relationships and operational processes. The course incorporates analyses of comprehensive cases involving strategic and tactical decisions throughout product and service supply chains in a domestic and global environment.
