Type of Admissions

Unconditional Admission

An unconditional admission generally carries no academic restriction, though you may be expected to take some courses to make up for some undergraduate deficiencies.

Probationary Admission

A probationary admission may be granted to students who don't meet the minimum requirements of the program and the Graduate School but whose academic records demonstrate promise of high achievement. These students will be on probation when admitted and will frequently be given a trial period of one semester to meet specific requirements. Students who meet these requirements within the trial period will be taken off probation and admitted unconditionally; students who don't meet these requirements may be terminated from graduate studies at IARSAC International University at the end of the trial period.

Conditional Admission

A conditional admission is issued when the application for admission is missing a required official/final document. Most applicants are reviewed with unofficial transcripts or test scores. Admission to the University is contingent upon receiving official or final transcripts with a degree posted and/or official test scores, like GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS, etc. Documents must be sent to the University prior to the start of the term. A student may be terminated from graduate studies at IARSAC International University if the missing documentation is not provided within one semester.

Undergraduate/Graduate Coursework for Graduate Credit

Undergraduates can take graduate courses for graduate credit if they (1) have junior or senior status, (2) have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. Total registration cannot exceed 15 hours in that semester. Graduate coursework will not be calculated in the undergraduate GPA. The transcript will indicate the grade received, the number of credit hours the course was worth, but 0 hours earned. This is due to only earned hours are calculated in the GPA. This is common transcript language used by Registrar/Bursar offices. There is no guarantee graduate courses taken will be accepted by another University as transfer credit.

All coursework taken for graduate credit must be approved by the department or school advisor and the Graduate School BEFORE registration.

Up to 12 hours of coursework will count toward an IIU graduate degree program only and has a limit of 6 years to be used. Coursework taken for graduate credit cannot count toward a bachelor's degree except under the provisions of integrated bachelor’s/master’s degree and accelerated master’s degree programs. This opportunity is also extended to last semester seniors of other universities who find it possible to take graduate work at this University while completing requirements for the bachelor's degree on their own campuses. Such graduate courses cannot be used in meeting bachelor’s degree requirements on their own campuses.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

Where required, Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are accepted only for:

  • Tests taken within 5 years of the entrance term
  • Official scores - those reported electronically to UNO by ETS
  • The institution code for reporting GRE scores to UNO is 6379.

Coursework must be completed at an appropriately accredited university.

Please note that we cannot give absolute assurance that your academic documentation will qualify you for graduate study until we have reviewed your documents. When you apply, you must provide transcripts and degree statements for all post-secondary coursework at a college or university, even if a degree or certificate was not awarded.

The Graduate School does not require third-party credential evaluations for international transcripts. However, evaluations from members of the following associations are welcome. You may choose any evaluator you wish to use from either NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) or AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluators), commonly used credential evaluation services.

Please note The Graduate School will also accept:

  • International transcripts electronically from WES (World Education Services), IEE (International Education Evaluations), and ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators).
  • Transcripts and degrees from China that are verified by either CSSD (Center for Student Services and Development, Ministry of Education, P.R. China), or CDGDC (China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center).
  • Transcripts and degrees from India that are verified by TrueCopy.
  • Transcripts and degrees from Nigeria that are verified by ETX-NG (Electronic Transcript Exchange and Certificate Verification System for Nigeria).
  • While CSSD, CDGDC, TrueCopy, ETX-NG and electronic evaluations from WES, IEE, and ECE are options for sending official transcripts and degree diplomas/certificates, original transcripts and degree diplomas/certificates are also accepted.

If you completed a degree and it is not indicated on your transcript, then we will require a copy of your degree diploma/certificate to be uploaded to your application. The most common reason for delayed consideration of applications is failure to upload all required transcripts and degree diploma/certificates from educational institutions outside of the United States.

To try and minimize international mail delays after submitting your application, The Graduate School recommends sending official transcripts and degree diplomas/certificates from each college/university you have attended. (Please note official transcripts and degrees are not required to be sent to The Graduate School until after an offer of admission has been made.) The documents should be mailed to:

Master's Students

The Graduate School at IARSAC International University sets minimum application requirements for applicants to our master's programs. Master’s program may also set additional application requirements beyond what is listed on this webpage. As a result, when preparing your application materials, we highly recommend reviewing the website of the program to which you are applying to find information regarding their requirements and application deadline. You should have no need to send a single item by mail during the applicant stage. Self-managing your own application in this way is possible because we have designated areas within the application where each required document should be uploaded.

Master’s Degree Prerequisites

  • Normally, the minimum requirement for admission to a master's program is successful completion of an undergraduate degree/ baccalaureate, in an honors program or the equivalent, from a recognized university.
  • Minimum B- average (last two years of full-time equivalent study)
  • All master’s degrees require the completion of a bachelor’s degree and usually require an undergraduate GPA of 3.0. Many schools also require taking entrance exams like the GRE or GMAT. Some institutions, like IARSAC International University, require a minimum 2.75 GPA, or require you to take an entrance exam if you do not meet the GPA criteria.
  • After that, you can expect to find a wide variety of prerequisites—from no required courses to highly-specific or technical courses that must be completed before you can begin a master’s program.

Specialist students

In addition to the overall Graduate School requirements above, an individual applying for a specialist program must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a scale in which an A is a 4.0) for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work (approximately the junior and senior years).

Applicants from countries where English is not the official language, and who have not earned at least a bachelor’s degree in the U.S., must also demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Refer to the list of English-speaking countries to determine if you must meet this requirement.

  • PTE-A – 53
  • TOEFL (iBT - 79; PBT - 550)
  • GRE Verbal – 153
  • Duolingo - 110

Doctoral Students

(Ph.D., Ed.D,etc)

Students seeking admission to the Graduate School must have obtained a bachelor’s degree, prior to the start of the term for which s/he is admitted, from a fully accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or from a recognized foreign institution. An accredited U.S. institution is one that is accredited by one of the seven regional academic accrediting associations. A recognized foreign institution is an institution that is recognized by that nation's Ministry of Education or similar authority as a post-secondary, academic degree-granting institution

Applicants are required to meet admissions criteria established by the Graduate School in order to enroll in graduate courses. In order to be admitted to a degree program in any academic unit, applicants are also required to meet any additional standards set by the unit or college. Applicants are selected on a competitive basis and, therefore, admission is not granted to all applicants who meet only the minimum requirements. Past behavior and classroom performance can be considered in admissions decisions. Some academic programs have individual application forms and additional requirements such as portfolios, proficiency examinations, auditions, etc.

Minimum Admission to Doctoral Degree Programs

  • A Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree: The applicant must provide an unofficial transcript showing that a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent was awarded by an accredited college or university or is expected to be awarded within one term. If accepted to the IARSAC International University, the student must provide an official transcript by the end of their first semester. In addition, transcripts from any other college or university attended may be requested. Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official. Personal copies are not acceptable as official documents. If you are a IIU undergraduate student applying to Graduate School at IIU, you do not need to request that an official transcript be sent to Graduate Admissions.
  • GPA: The applicant must have earned an acceptable grade point average, typically a minimum of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0, but departments may make exceptions for students whose overall GPA does not adequately reflect their ability to succeed in their chosen field.

In Addition, the applicants must also provide the following documents:

  • A statement of academic purpose.
  • A list of all the prior colleges or universities you have attended, accompanied by unofficial transcripts from each school. Unofficial transcripts should be uploaded with your application. Official or paper transcripts are not needed at this time.
  • Three letters of recommendation. Enter the names of your recommenders directly in the application and they will receive a link to upload a letter on your behalf.
  • $115 application fee or fee waiver.
  • Standardized tests. GRE requirements vary by program. TOEFL or IELTS are necessary for most non-native English speakers.
  • Resume/CV.

Applicants not meeting minimum requirements still may be considered for admission with the support of their academic program, plus review and approval by the University Graduate Admissions Committee. For these applicants, decisions may rely more heavily on non-cognitive criteria. However, the university encourages applicants whose overall cumulative undergraduate GPA of less than an equivalent 3.00 on a U.S. 4.00 grading scale to take the GRE.
